Question by ramsfan81: How to fix computer that won’t open programs besides Internet?
I am unable to open any of the programs on my computer, except for the internet explorer. I am unable to perform a system restore because it just comes up as an error of some sort. Can I put the computer into safe mode and then perform a systems restore to fix it, or do I need to do something else? Also anytime I click on a link in Google it doesn’t actually bring me to that site. How do I fix these problems. Thanks.

I will sigest that you repair Windows but not by using the repair normal procedure from the Installation disk. Here is how you can repair Windows without reinstalling and loosing everything. Put the Windows installation disk into the drive. Restart the computer and go to boot from CD. Once in there chose to install new version of windows instead of run a repair. press F8 to agree with the terms and conditions and the second screen will ask you if you want to install new copy of WINDOWS or you want to REPAIR an existing installation of WINDOWS chose to repair existing windows then press R on your keyboard and voila! providing you have your Windows product key you will see everything exactly the same as when you are installing new copy of Windows but all your programs and data is there. You might have to activate windows again . Hope this helps.

Computer consulting: Is it better to get computer consulting on the internet or in a shop?

My husband and I want to upgrade our computer. Would it be better to get computer consulting online where its free, or as far as computer consulting goes, does the “You get what you pay for” saying hold true? Would it be better to hire a local consulting guru?

According to my sources (see the research on the page linked below) and my own personal experience, overall, the best source of computer consulting is over the internet. It is generally less expensive consulting, and you can find a wider variety of information. Local, personal computer consulting, of course, has the advantage of showing you in person step by step what you may need help with, but can sometimes be limited in their knowledge.

I would say go with consulting over the web :)
